The Hoop Chair from 1986 has also created a completely new image of how a chair can appear. It incorporates a large laminated hoop that is an important part of the bearing construction. The surface that carry the sitter are woven in flag halyard that is carried by a frame of ash. An archetype of the distinction between the bearer and borne. |

巨大なフープが特徴的な
フープチェア。座の延長がそのまま後脚というウェグナー得意の
脚のデザイン
です。さらに後脚にキャスターをつけて動かしやすい設計になっています。
フラッグハリヤードチェア
（1950年）から15年後の1965年、ウェグナーは再びこのロープを使って椅子のデザインを試みます。
1960年前後の日本では、ホッピング、フラフープ、だっこちゃんが相次いで大流行しました。庭で娘さんがフラフープに興じているのを見て、ヒントを得たのではありませんか？いかがですか、ウェグナーさん。当時は木でフープを作る技術はありませんでした。ですからこの1965年のデザインはスチールパイプで設計されていましたが、結局製作はされませんでした。それでも、やはり木とロープにたいするこだわりがあったのでしょうか、その２年後の1967年、
ハンモックチェア
をデザインしています。結局この
フープチェア
はフラッグハリヤードチェアから36年後、初めの構想から21年後の1986年に製作されます。PPモブラー社の職人が、ラミネート加工により木製のフープを作る技術を完成させたのです。
11枚の薄板を重ね、貼り合わせたこの巨大なフープは、優れたマイスターの手によって、その継ぎ目さえわからなくなります。
