From 1836, Thonet began experimenting
with the manufacture of bent
laminated wood seating. This involved
soaking strips of veneer in boiling
glue, then pressing them into moulds
of the required shape.





この椅子をみると、いかにトーネットが材を曲げることに、こだわっていたかがよーくわかります。No.14 などと違って、材を薄く切って接着剤でくっつけ、型にはめて圧力をかけ、必要な形に曲げています。表面は walnut(くるみの木) で化粧張りを施しています。No.14 より20年ほど前の作品で "Boppard chair" は彼の生まれた町にちなんだ名前です。（Boppard という単語はどの辞書をみてものっていないので、その由来を調べるのに苦労しました。）

脚の曲線部のデザインが素敵です、きっと背に適度の弾力があって座りやすそうですね。
