In 1900, van de Velde moved from
Belgium to Germany, where he
practised his "Anglicised" version
of Art Nouveau. As an important
design theorist, as well as
a prolific designer, his chairs
can be seen as realizations of
his desire for functional objects
that could exist beyond stylistic
convension.








パリの「メゾン・ド・アールー・ヌーボー」のインテリアデザインを担当したヴェルデが自邸のためにデザインした椅子。装飾的なアールー・ヌーボーに英国式を取り入れるこころみによるのか、自邸で使うためなのか、すっきりとしたデザインです。ダイニングルームに最適ですね。
